The last time we saw the Jacksonville Jaguars in the playoffs, they were busy losing to the New England Patriots in Foxborough in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.

That’s the 2007 AFC Divisional Playoffs.

Now the teams square off in the first preseason tilt for both clubs this year. Now led full-time by head coach Doug Marrone, the Jaguars are looking to rebound from a disastrous 3-13 season. Of course, the Pats were looking for a big comeback the last time we saw the team. Tom Brady watched his team fall behind by 25 points only to rally for a 34-28 OT win in Super Bowl LI.

Last season, the Patriots’ defense was ranked eighth in the NFL in total yards per game and tied for third against the run. That may get a test from Jacksonville rookie Leonard Fournette. Other key newcomers for the team include defensive end Calais Campbell, safety Barry Church and cornerback A.J. Bouye. For New England, they spent the offseason dealing for the likes of defensive end Kony Ealy, wide receiver Brandin Cooks and tight end Dwayne Allen.

If it’s business as usual for the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots, it will be a long 2017 for the former and just another longer and more successful season for the defending champions. It will be interesting to see all the new faces for both team on display this evening.
