The New York Giants are down another competent body after the team suspended cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
There’s a lot going on in East Rutherford. First, the New York Giants released their injury report. The team listed one defensive back. But two defensive backs were missing at practice. While Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was limping on Sunday during the game against the Chargers, he was not on the injury report. But he was also not at practice.
Apparently, Rodgers-Cromartie got into an argument with head coach Ben McAdoo after being benched in Sunday’s game. The heat never cooled off. Landon Collins, a safety on the team, said there was an altercation on Sunday.
The Giants cornerback showed up to practice today but did not participate. He spoke to the coaching staff about his disappointment with his role. He then left the facility. The Giants then suspended him.
Of course, this brings up questions as to whether Ben McAdoo has lost control over the locker room. He called out the quarterback of the team. There were also many issues with star receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. before his injury.
McAdoo responded to the idea that he lost control by saying he was not really interested in what people think.
According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, Rodgers-Cromartie will be back tomorrow. Still, New York has already suspended him.
She later got another statement from the cornerback that clarifies the situation a little more.
There are football implications to this ordeal, of course. Rodgers-Cromartie wanted to start on the outside, not in the slot. He did so for Eli Apple against the Chargers, but then the Giants moved him inside.
The Giants need a cornerback to cover the slot and DRC is the best option they have. With him suspended, an incredibly banged up Giants team will have one fewer competent body to put on the football field every week.
