On Sunday at FedExField, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Redskins. What came out of this Week 8 divisional rivalry?
The last time we saw Jason Garrett’s club take the field, they were running over, around and through the San Francisco 49ers on their way to a 40-10 win last Sunday. Less than a week ago in Philadelphia, the Washington Redskins fell to the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time this season, 34-24.
So what would give when these two longtime NFL adversaries renewed acquaintances in Landover, Maryland? It’s a place that the Cowboys have flourished as of late. Dallas has taken the last four meetings on the ‘Skins home field.
Would things be different this time around? Nope. Make it seven wins in the last nine encounters and five consecutive victories at FedExField as Dak Prescott and company came away with a 33-19 triumph.
1. Ezekiel Elliott
The second-year pro racked up 33 carries for 150 yards and two scores in the team’s convincing victory at FedExField. The Cowboys ran for 169 yards in the 33-19 win.
2. David Irving
Since returning from a four-game suspension, he’s helped make the Dallas’ pass rush a force. On Sunday against Washington’s revamped offensive, Irving finished with four tackles, two sacks and knocked down a pass.
3. Mike Nugent
With Dan Bailey out of action, the veteran specialist did a nice job despite the rainy conditions on Sunday. Nugent missed his first field goal attempt of the game (49 yards), but connected on the next four and hit on all three of his PATs in the Cowboys’ win.
The Cowboys had defeated the ‘Skins in six of the teams’ previous eight meetings, which is the main reason that Dallas was a 1-point favorite on Sunday despite the fact that this game was at FedExField. The over/under for this divisional clash stood at 50.5
Both the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins have intriguing contests in Week 9. Jason Garrett’s club returns home and hosts the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs. Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins and company make their way to the Pacific Northwest and face the Seattle Seahawks.
