Andrew Luck may be out until October

NFL

It was a rough start to the 2017 NFL season for the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, and the hits just keep on coming for the franchise.

The Indianapolis Colts were throttled by the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 of the NFL season, and now it looks like their starting quarterback is gone until October. Andrew Luck did not play in the opener, as he recovers from shoulder surgery, so the Colts went with Scott Tolzien under center. Led by Tolzien, the Colts lost to the Rams by the score of 46-9, and may actually be the worst team in the NFL without Luck.

Those same Rams got some good news before their game against the Colts, as Aaron Donald returned to the team. One of the best defensive lineman in the game, Donald had sat out all of preseason in hopes of getting a new contract. Over the past three seasons, Donald has racked up nearly 30 sacks, so getting him back is huge for a Rams team that really turned heads in Week 1.

Dalvin Cook had a monster first game in the NFL, breaking a mark held by Adrian Peterson in the process. Cook rushed for 127 yards in the game, setting the record for most rushing yards in a season opener by a Vikings rookie. The rookie out of Florida State led his Vikings to a 29-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.

Staying with the running backs, it looks like David Johnson is going to be out a while. The star running back for the Arizona Cardinals dislocated his wrist on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, and will miss an extended period of time. Johnson is one of the best two-way backs in the NFL, so his loss is going to be felt by a Cardinals team that was blown out by the Lions in the fourth quarter in Week 1.

Finally, the Denver Broncos locked up their kicker prior to their Monday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Brandon McManus was rewarded with a three-year extension by the Broncos, with the contract being worth over $11 million. McManus missed only five field goals last season, and has a career-long mark of 57 yards.
