Starter bringing back Detroit Lions jacket from Beverly Hills Cop II

Detroit Lions, Movies

It’s been just over 30 years since Beverly Hills Cop II was in theaters, so Starter is celebrating by re-releasing the Detroit Lions jacket worn by Eddie Murphy in the film

On the heels of the huge success of Beverly Hills Cop in 1984, of course a sequel (or two, eventually) had to be made. Beverly Hills Cop II came out in 1987, and Eddie Murphy again portrayed Detroit cop Axel Foley as he went west once again to help solve a crime. Murphy, or Foley, wore a Detroit Lions jacket that is surely etched in the memory of anyone who has seen the movie.

It’s been just a shade over exactly 30 years since Beverly Hills Cop II was in theaters, and outside of re-boots of The Nutty Professor and Dr. Doolittle Murphy hasn’t really been relevant since then. But in celebration of that 30-year anniversary, Starter is re-releasing the Lions jacket seen in the first Beverly Hills Cop sequel.

From ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

The jacket worn by Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop II couldn’t be much more 80’s vintage in look. From the oversized Lions helmet logo with the team name over it on the left breast, to the huge helmet logo with full team name on the back, to the numbers on each shoulder, to a black “base” or “core” and white sleeves as a contrast, the jacket just screams “1987!” if you didn’t know it going in.

If you’d like one though, for $160, you’ll have to seek out Detroit retailer Mr. Alan’s. Their website says the jacket is “coming soon” still, and sizes appear to be limited, but there’s also a women’s version for $139 if that suits you better. Shipping appears to be available for all items, so you don’t necessarily have to take a trip or live near Detroit to own a bit of replica movie memorabilia.
