Texans reportedly signing Matt McGloin

After Deshaun Watson’s injury, the Houston Texans are reuniting Bill O’Brien with a former protege in Matt McGloin

The Houston Texans suffered a huge hit on Thursday when it was revealed rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL in practice. Of course, the first-year player out of Clemson will need to have surgery on the injury to repair it so, unfortunately, his first year in the NFL is coming to a premature close that’s just heartbreaking.

Still, despite their spectacular starter being gone for the year, the Texans still have a season to play, and now they have a hole in their quarterback depth chart. Well, it apparently didn’t take them long to find someone to fill the void.

The Texans, it seems, are going for someone that head coach Bill O’Brien knows rather well. According to a report, the team will now be signing quarterback Matt McGloin, who actually played under O’Brien at Penn State.

Naturally, following the injury to Watson, questions had already started to arise as to whether or not the Texans may finally be the team to bring in free agent Colin Kaepernick. However, it doesn’t seem to be the case here, with the team opting to sign someone out there that O’Brien is familiar with somewhat.

McGloin played for O’Brien at Penn State during the 2012 season, experiencing some success, which helped him eventually land in the NFL. He would go on to spend four seasons with the Oakland Raiders, making seven starts in his career. Prior to this season, he signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles but was cut by his home-state team just prior to the campaign getting underway.

But, now, with this unfortunate injury to Watson, McGloin has a new home with a familiar face running the place.
