The Arizona Cardinals and head coach Bruce Arians will be parting ways this offseason. There are a handful of candidates the team could consider.
Entering the 2017-18 NFL season the fans in Arizona had reason for excitement. They had one of the best players in the league in running back David Johnson. Their quarterback and star wide receiver were two of the more reliable players despite their age. A season ago there was a defense that led the NFL in sacks and featured two stars in the secondary.
Now that the season is coming to a wrap, the Cardinals faithful has performed a complete 180. Johnson missed most of the season with an injury. Quarterback Carson Palmer did the same, and was showing his age prior to the injury. The defense totally regressed despite the team spending their top two draft picks on defenders.
The team will also be looking for a new head coach. Front office and current coach Bruce Arians are reported to be mutually agreeing to seperate.
Most around the league expect Arizona to jump into a rebuild. This is an enticing job for all candidates. The defense, despite their struggles, has a lock down corner in Patrick Peterson, a pair of solid edge defenders and youth. The offense, aside from Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson (assuming he comes back healthy) needs an upgrade.
Arizona will likely top the list for many potential head coaching candidates. The following list of five candidates will be coveted among many front offices. There is a dynamic group of candidates this year and will replicate the previous off season where the league saw five coaching changes.
