While the Northeast was getting blasted with a blizzard, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick tried to practice in it.
The New England Patriots do not play this weekend, as they have earned a bye in the Wild Card round. In fact, the Patriots are the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs, which means the conference has to go through New England. On Thursday, New England was blasted with quite a blizzard, but that did not stop the Patriots from trying to have practice as usual.
While the team ended up going inside to practice, the team could be seen running outside to practice as snow fell all around them. Maybe this is what sets the Patriots apart from the other 31 teams in the NFL, but even Belichick knew when it was time to head inside. New England is the favorite to repeat as Super Bowl champs this season, after erasing a 28-3 fourth quarter deficit in the big game last February.
Sure, football is meant to be played in the snow, and some would even call snow “football weather.” However, this storm on Thursday was not your ordinary snowstorm, as can be seen by the video tweeted out by ABC News.
The Patriots went 13-3 this season, winning the AFC East with ease. While they were expected to be very good once again in 2017, it is pretty incredible that they keep winning at this pace. The Patriots defense struggled a bit throughout the year, but their bend-but-don’t-break philosophy led to double-digit wins once again, so no harm, no foul. Quarterback Tom Brady is a five-time Super Bowl winner, and No. 6 may be on the horizon.
New England will play the lowest-seeded team in the Divisional Round, and they certainly will have the upper hand no matter who the team is. Brady continues to defy age, and former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison made quite the debut with the team last weekend, picking up two sacks. The Patriots are pretty loaded on both sides of the ball, but teams like Pittsburgh and Kansas City may be able to give them a run for their money, even inside Foxboro.
