The Kansas City Chiefs are taking major heat for trading All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters, and their fans are trying to save them from themselves.
The trade of Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Los Angeles Rams can’t be official until the NFL’s new league year kicks in on March 14 at 4 p.m. ET, and the Arrowhead faithful aren’t giving up hope.
Although the trade is going to happen barring incredibly bizarre circumstances, many Chiefs fans have taken to the internet in hopes of keeping their 25-year-old, All-Pro corner in tow. There is a petition circling the rounds, with 50 fans as of this writing) already signing. You can bet scores more will be signing in the coming days.
Kansas City shocked the football world on Friday when Adam Schefter of ESPN announced the team would be dealing Peters to the Rams. On Monday, Schefter followed up with the compensation, having the Rams sending a fourth-round pick this year and a second-round pick in 2019 to the Chiefs. Incredibly, Kansas City is also second its sixth-round pick this year along with Peters to the City of Angels.
The Chiefs have had an absurdly busy offseason considering free agency hasn’t begun, and the team is a two-time defending AFC West champ. Kansas City already traded Pro Bowl quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins for a 2018 third-round pick and corner Kendall Fuller, then released inside linebacker Derrick Johnson only days later.
After agreeing to trade Peters on Friday, Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Chiefs reported that longtime safety Ron Parker will be released, freeing up $5 million in cap space.
