Josh McCown signed new deal with Jets while at Chick-fil-A

New York Jets, NFL Free Agency

Josh McCown will be back with the New York Jets this year, and he signed the deal while waiting for food.

Before a season-ending injury, Josh McCown performed far better than expected for the New York Jets last season. In 13 games he threw for 2,926 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions, with three 300-yard games, a four-game stretch with nine total touchdown passes and a career-best 67.3 percent completion rate.

McCown was consistent about his willingness to return to the Jets, and the two sides agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal this week. The Jets also signed Teddy Bridgewater to a one-year deal, and may still draft one of the top quarterback prospects sixth overall in April’s draft.

Teams and players typically release photos of contract signing his somewhere in the facility, if only for social media interaction. But McCown is not in New York right now, choosing to be at home in Texas instead. But technology obviously allows for that gap to be bridged, and McCown put his electronic John Hancock on a new contract in a spot about as every-day routine as it gets.

McCown was waiting in his car for food at Chick-fil-A when he received and signed his contract with the Jets. The photo credit to his daughter? Aiden is a nice touch.

McCown has had quite a journeyman career, starting in 2002 with the Arizona Cardinals and going through the Detroit Lions (2006), Oakland Raiders (2007), Carolina Panthers (2008-2009), Chicago Bears (2011-2013), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014), Cleveland Browns (2015-2016) and the Jets (2017). His 13 starts last year tied his career-high in a season, and at this point he is in line to be the Jets’ Week 1 starter this year.

It can be hard for athletes to separate career business and their personal lives. But McCown has been around long enough to have things in the right perspective. Now the question is–what did he order?
