Dez Bryant is following Texans players on social media

Dallas Cowboys, NFL News, NFL Offseason

Some may question former Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver Dez Bryant when it comes to being a leader. But there’s no doubt he is a follower.

The biggest news in the NFL these last few days was the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to part ways with wide receiver Dez Bryant. In eight seasons with the club, he rolled up some impressive numbers. The resume reads 531 receptions for 7,459 yards and 73 touchdowns. He ranks third in franchise history in catches behind only tight end Jason Witten (1,152) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin (750).

But the 2010 first-round pick saw his performance decline over the past three seasons, which is perhaps one reason the Cowboys opted to go in a different direction. In 2015 and ’16, he combined to miss 10 games. He combined for only 17 scores the past three years after hauling in an NFL-best 16 TD receptions in 2014.

Following his release, Bryant expressed his desire to face his former employer at least twice a season. Of course, that meant a desire to join the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. As ESPN’s Chris Mortensen on Friday reported, none of those clubs are interested at this time.

However, Bryant is currently working on his numbers when it comes to the outside possibility of latching on with another team. Cowboys Gameday reporter Bobby Belt recently made the following observation:

Bryant comes off a disappointing season in which he played all 16 games and managed to lead the club in catches (69), receiving yards (838) and touchdown grabs (6). But he was also targeted a team-high 132 times and failed to total at least 100 yards receiving in any contest. So what are the chances that the 29-year-old pro remains in the Lone Star State and pairs with Hopkins, Fuller and Watson in Houston’s offense? There’s no “Insta” answer for that at the moment.
