So which teams made trade offers for Andrew Luck?

If there were trade offers in for Andrew Luck, which teams might have entered the fray?

For over a year, the condition of Andrew Luck’s throwing shoulder has been the cloud hanging over the Indianapolis Colts. There is optimism he’ll be ready to go for Week 1 this year, but until he is at least throwing a normal football on the practice field, nothing can be taken for granted.

Owner Jim Irsay is usually good for a quote. But his comments on Saturday suggested trade offers had come in for Luck around this weekend’s draft, which were of course turned down.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard went a little further, confirming trade offers came in around the trade deadline last season. Those were also turned down, obviously.

Look, we had some calls last year at the trade deadline. And I just — come on man. I’m not taking those seriously.

We’re not trading Andrew Luck. I’m not putting that on my resumé.

The Colts are married to Luck, on a significant contract which briefly set the top of the quarterback market and goes through the 2021 season.

But the idea some teams made a trade offer to the Colts is interesting. So which teams may have entered the mix for Luck?

5. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals lost Carson Palmer to a season-ending broken arm in Week 7 last season, coincidentally right before the trade deadline. He was also on track to retire, which he ultimately did after the season.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians also called it quits. But he was Luck’s first offensive coordinator (while also stepping in as interim head coach) in Indianapolis, so that tie would have surely been relevant in the middle of last season before Arians made his own future plans known. Things have changed in Arizona now, as they signed Sam Bradford and moved up to draft Josh Rosen. But one of the trade deadline calls Ballard cited has to have come from Cardinals general manager Steve Keim.
