The Patriots superstar stirred the pot when he pleaded the fifth to a question about his team, though it appeared he was only joking.
Tom Brady became the latest New England Patriots player to make the news recently as he was interviewed at the Milken Institute Global Conference on Monday. When asked if he felt appreciated by his team, Brady pleaded the fifth. He chuckled and smiled throughout before stating the fact that everybody wants to be appreciated more at work.
Brady gave a genuine answer to a question chasing a headline response. Later, he was asked if he was happy in New England. He stated he has his moments. Whereas this may look troubling on the surface to Patriots fans, it’s nothing to worry about. Brady later went on to diffuse any potential rumors by stating his stance on Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
These comments come after a season and offseason of rumored turmoil as comments from current and former players on Belichick. It seems as if people are doing anything and everything nowadays to be the thorn in New England’s side and this seems like the latest attempt.
While Brady and Belichick — the five-time Super Bowl winning pair — both have big egos, they go together like peanut butter and jelly. Belichick isn’t the easiest coach to play under — far from it — but he’s gotten results. Brady knows that. When Brady looks back at his career 10-20 years down the line, he may not remember it being fun. However, he’ll look at his five (and counting) Super Bowl rings and remember it was all worth it. The NFL isn’t all fun and games, even for the greatest. It may not seem Brady’s getting all of the appreciation he deserves now, but he’ll certainly feel that way in Canton one day.
