Eagles are ‘highly encouraged’ by Carson Wentz’s progress

Carson Wentz is progressing nicely, and this should make Philadelphia Eagles fans happy. Perhaps he can be ready for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.

When the Philadelphia Eagles took home their first Lombardi Trophy in team history, starting quarterback Carson Wentz had the unfortunate position of being a spectator to the wizardry of Nick Foles.

Wentz is hoping to change that storyline next season.

Wentz, who propelled the Eagles’ hot start to the 2017 season, had his season cut short by a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. When Wentz went down, nobody thought that Philadelphia had a chance to win without him, but the Eagles proved everyone wrong, and this may have added fuel to Wentz’s determination to get healthy in time for Week 1.

According to Tim McManus of ESPN, he may well be on his way. The football world got its first update on the Eagles franchise quarterback on May 11, and the results were very positive. Eagles coach Doug Pederson told the media that he was “highly encouraged” with Wentz’s progress.

“He’s making progress each day, and we continue the process, and he continues to throw and get stronger,” he said to ESPN. Pederson also expressed that the team is trying not to exert too much from Carson, but are also stepping up his conditioning to see if he’s close to being ready for the season.

The early results seem to point that he is.

The team (or the media) have leaked out images of Wentz throwing the ball to his teammates in practice, and he looks fine. Wentz is still in rehab phase right now, but his ultimate goal is to be ready for Week 1. If he’s there, it would be a huge boost for the Eagles.

If Wentz isn’t ready, or, at worse, falters after Week 1, Foles will be there, ready to take this team back to the Super Bowl.
