The San Francisco 49ers are heading into the 2018 season with massive expectations. They will also head into the year with new alternate uniforms.
Jimmy Garoppolo has lots of 49ers fans really excited about the 2018 season. Now San Francisco fans have another reason to look forward to the new year. The team will also be unveiling a new alternate uniform.
Details about the new uniform are still sketchy at best. Some believe the team will unveil the new look during the team’s annual state of the franchise event on May 23. That’s still unconfirmed at the moment, but it seems like a reasonable time to make this sort of announcement.
Predictably, there are no reasonable projects of what the new uniforms will look like. Receiver Marquise Goodwin did make a suggestion of his own back in February, but there aren’t any indications that his look will get approval from the team.
No matter what, 49ers fans will undoubtedly get excited about this news. Alternate uniforms just don’t come along that often in the NFL. The league isn’t exactly the most progressive organization on Earth. Teams are generally limited to four uniform combinations per season. Typically, teams only produce new alternate combinations once every three or four years at the most.
That makes this an exciting proposition for 49ers fans. In fact, they’re one of only two teams we currently know are planning on making any jersey changes next season. The Steelers also plan to design a new alternate to replace their controversial “bumblebee” jerseys.
It will be interesting to see if the 49ers choose to do anything quite that creative. The franchise has historically been very protective of its classic look. Any major departure from the team’s current color scheme and uniform style would be a real surprise.
Still, it’s an exciting thing to look forward to for 49ers fans. They could find out their team’s new look in just under one week.
