Janoris Jenkins’ brother charged with manslaughter

New York Giants

After a dead body was found in the basement of Janoris Jenkins’ home on Tuesday, his brother has now been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

On Wednesday afternoon, the brother of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins, William Jenkins, was charged with aggravated manslaughter. The man found dead was named Roosevelt Rene, a 25-year-old who was friends with the Jenkins. This coming one day after a dead body was discovered by law enforcement within the basement Janoris’ house in Bergen County, New Jersey.

On Tuesday, the Giants released a brief statement saying they were aware of the situation but declined to go any further. The NFL did the same.

While details remain sketchy at this juncture, this is what we know. William Jenkins was arrested nine hours before the discovery for violation of parole, according to TMZ. He was actually arrested in Ontario County of upstate New York, as well. At the time, he was not believed to be a suspect in the crime that took place in New Jersey, although that has apparently changed.

Janoris is down in Florida prior to the start of the New York Giants’ training camp schedule, but now is dealing with far more than football. While the legal process has to play itself out and will certainly take time to do so, the star corner’s brother will be entrenched in this ugly, tragic situation for months if not longer.

New York has Jenkins under contract through the 2020 season, paying him $38.5 million over the next three seasons. At 29 years old, Jenkins remains one of the better corners in the game, although last season both he and the Giants struggled, finishing 3-13.
