Former Bears teammate Kyle Long says Cutler ‘doing a great job’ on TV

NFL, Television

Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long may be blocking for a new quarterback, but he’s still lending some support to his former teammate Jay Cutler.

Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long spent four years blocking for quarterback Jay Cutler, so it’s safe to say he knows his former teammate pretty well — certainly in a way that the rest of us never will.

But now, Bears fans, football fans and fans of Cutler’s general aura alike have the chance to get to know the mysterious, apathetic former signal-caller a bit better, as he’s a breakout supporting star on his wife, Kristin Cavallari’s, new reality TV show, Very Cavallari.

Audiences were delighted to see Cutler in his natural augmented reality habitat, where the camera was really supposed to be focusing on the relationships and drama between Cavallari and her employees but just couldn’t stop panning over to Cutler’s increasingly ridiculous scene stealers.

And this one:

FanSided caught up with Long recently, and we couldn’t let him go without asking him what he thought of his former teammate’s recent turn on reality television. Has Cutler found his true calling?

“I think he’s doing a great job,” Long said, laughing. “I think Kristin is amazing, and I think she’s probably helped him out a lot.

“You know, he’s a bit rough around the edges,” Long continued. “I think he does a great job in showing his true colors on TV, and he’s grown more comfortable in the public eye, which I can respect and appreciate.”

So in case you were wondering if Cutler’s taciturn performance on the show was a bit put on by producers, take Long’s word for it. These appear to really be Cutler’s true colors — and they’re a muted palette, really, but we’re loving seeing them.

You can catch his next appearance on E! Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Cutler was also employed by Fox Sports as an analyst for a hot second before he returned to the field to play with the Miami Dolphins, so he could just be taking his warm-up reps on Very Cavallari before we’re seeing a lot more of him on TV soon.
