Sam Darnold is ready to be the starting QB and savior of the Jets

New York Jets

Sam Darnold has looked very sharp in the preseason thus far, and it appears he is ready to take on the toughest job in the sports world.

New York Jets first-round draft pick Sam Darnold looks ever so ready to assume the toughest job in sports — becoming the Jets savior.

In his first ever preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, a confident Darnold looked like a quarterback playing in his fifth season in the league. He diced up the Falcons secondary, hitting completing 13-of-18 passes for 96 yards.

This was a sign that the football gods, which have had the time of their lives making Jets fans miserable for the past decade, are beginning to let up a bit on New York’s second NFL team.

The gods let up even more on Thursday night, which was Darnold’s second start. He completed 8-for-11 passes for 62 yards, and although he didn’t have any touchdown passes, it is looking ever so likely that the starting quarterback job is his to lose.

This is all great news for the Jets.

We all remember their former savior, Mark Sanchez, who may well be famous for the most infamous play in recent NFL memory. That play has epitomized the long-standing situation of the Jets under center, who have gone through numerous quarterbacks in hopes of rescuing their sinking ship.

That, folks, is the football Gods playing cruel jokes on this franchise.

Next: Browns should sign Dez Bryant immediately

This is why fans of the Green and White are hoping and praying that Darnold comes in and rights the football universe. So far, he has shown all the promise anybody could ask for. The Jets are tired of being New York’s punching bag. They want a return to relevance, and Darnold is looking like he will, finally, lead the way to the promise land for long-suffering Jets fans.
