An unpaid speeding ticket led to Leonard Fournette’s brief arrest on Thursday.
Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Leonard Fournette was pulled over for speeding on Thursday in Jacksonville, and it seems that when he was pulled over, the police found another issue:
Apparently Fournette was pulled over for speeding back in November, but never paid the ticket. When he was stopped by the police on Thursday, they found the outstanding, unpaid ticket.
In addition to his speeding ticket he never paid, or perhaps because of it, Fournette also has a suspended driver’s license. But clearly he has continued to drive with the suspended license, since he was pulled over while driving on Thursday.
All of this led to the police arresting Fournette, likely for both the unpaid ticket and the suspended license. He paid $1,500 in bail and was released at 2:40pm.
The Jaguars released a statement, which was obtained by ESPN’s Michael DiRocco. It reads:
“The Jacksonville Jaguars are aware of the situation involving running back Leonard Fournette and are continuing to gather more information. No further comment will be provided at this time.”
There has been no indication as of this time whether the Jaguars or the NFL will be pursuing any type of discipline, including a suspension. Typically, lower-level legal matters such as these do not move the league’s needle, but in-house punitive action by the Jaguars is certainly possible.
